ChattState 50th: the early years 1963-65
ChattState is celebrating 50 years of service to our community this year. As this important milestone unfolds, we are taking the time to reflect where the College has been over the last half century.
1963: School Announced For Chattanooga Area
In the early 1960s, the Tennessee State Board of Education began efforts to establish community colleges across the state as a result of post-World War II children entering higher education. The school was to be located on Moccasin Bend.
1964: School Named Chattanooga State Technical Institute
Moccasin Bend site approved. Construction of the foundation begins, but the area was marsh land and very difficult to work with.
Our friends at Tennessee American Water are helping Chattanooga State celebrate its 50th Anniversary. During the month of July, be sure to check out Phillip D. Glass sporting a Chatt State 50th Anniversary t-shirt next time you are driving Amnicola toward downtown.
Beginning in 2015 ChattState will be celebrating 50 years of service to our community. As this important milestone approaches, we are taking the time to reflect where the College has been over the last 50 years. We are eager to have your feedback to assist us in the planning process.
Please go to chattanoogastate.edu/50th and fill out the form with your suggestions and share your stories of ChattState.
We will be making Committee assignments in the coming weeks to work on our proposed events that will begin in January 2015, and we are working on photos from the past 50 years to commemorate our history. These will be displayed in the Humanities hallways. If you have any photos that you would like to have included please email me: email@example.com.
