ChattState Alum Places Second at National MCAA Competition

During the National Masonry Skills Challenge at the World of Concrete/World of Masonry in Las Vegas, Chattanooga State alum Austin McEwen placed second in the second year apprentice category competing against other apprentice masons from across the U.S.A. 2010 Collegiate High cum laude graduate, Austin holds an Associate of Arts degree and is employed by Adams Masonry, Inc. ChattState Grad Fosters Excitement for Gamers

    Meeting Jennie Gritton is enlightening. Within minutes of initial conversations about her career, one can be certain that she obviously knows her “stuff” well. Jennie is a software engineer for one of the largest video game companies in the world – Electronic Arts (EA).  Named “Rookie of the Year” during her first year at EA in 2007, Jennie has been instrumental in the development of Madden NFL 08-12, NCAA Football 08-10, Dead Space 3, Battlefield Hardline, and is now in the process of developing a Star Wars game.Preparing for her gaming career at age 14 proved to be a challenge since her high school did not offer any programming classes and she had no computer at home. “It wasn’t until I graduated high school, bought a computer with a loan and went on to Chattanooga State that I was first introduced to programming and Web development,” recalls Jennie.

First Alum, First Woman Elected Chair of the Chattanooga State Foundation

The Chattanooga State Foundation announced that Dr. Maricela Rodriguez, a Chattanooga State alumna and local dentist, is the new Foundation Board Chair and President. She will serve a two-year term. Alan Cates is the immediate past chair and president. Additional officers include Edna Varner as vice-chair and chair-elect, John Germ as treasurer, Britt Tabor as assistant treasurer and Roberta Miles as secretary. Newest Board members include: Rowena Belcher, TVA retiree & community volunteer; Scott Mattice, Senior Vice President, Morgan Stanley; Reggie Piercy, Senior Vice President, Vision Hospitality; Keith Sanford, President & CEO, Tennessee Aquarium; Britt Tabor, Chief Financial Officer, Erlanger Health System; and Tom White, Senior Vice President of Investor Relations, Unum.
