ChattState 50th: The early years 1963-1965

ChattState is celebrating 50 years of service to our community this year. As this important milestone unfolds, we are taking the time to reflect where the College has been over the last half century.

1963: School Announced For Chattanooga Area

In the early 1960s, the Tennessee State Board of Education began efforts to establish community colleges across the state as a result of post-World War II children entering higher education. The school was to be located on Moccasin Bend.

1964: School Named Chattanooga State Technical Institute

Moccasin Bend site approved. Construction of the foundation begins, but the area was marsh land and very difficult to work with.

Young Alumni Profile: Sophie

Sophie studied in the honors program of elementary education here at Chattanooga State. Sophie chose elementary education on account of her love for teaching; she currently teaches varsity soccer. She originally hails from Australia, but moved to the United States in 2013 to pursue her education. Congrats Chattanooga State Class of 2015

Chattanooga State Commencement was held on Saturday, May 9 at the Memorial Auditorium. The Class of 2015 is represented by 20 countries with a total of 403 students receiving honors. Our oldest graduate is 68 years old receiving an AAS in Human Services Specialist and our youngest graduate is 16 years old receiving an Associate of Science. Females represent 58% of our graduates and 42% are males. We have 56 students graduating from Hamilton County Collegiate High at Chattanooga State with 28 of these receiving an Associate degree at the same time.

ChattState Class of 1967 Reunion Video Released

Members of the very first graduating class of Chattanooga State gathered on campus this afternoon to celebrate the release of their college memories video captured on film during their 46th Reunion held in November 2013.
