I am grateful to Chattanooga State, because they gave me the courage and support to graduate high school with my associate degree. Now in my fourth year as a faculty member I have the greatest opportunity to give back the same encouragement that helped me to succeed so many years ago.
I am grateful to Chattanooga State because they gave me the tools to achieve more than even I thought was possible with my career.
If someone had told me 10 years ago that I could be anything, from a bookkeeper to setting up the entire accounting department of a multimillion dollar company with an Associates degree in accounting, I’m not sure I would have believed them. That’s what happened and I can thank Chattanooga State for giving me the education and guidance to be where I am today. From accounting classes to interviewing and writing a resume, I feel like my professors at Chattanooga State made sure I was prepared to start my career in any accounting job.
I am grateful to Chattanooga State because the classes I took and time I spent as manager of the women’s basketball team prepared me to continue my education and athletic endeavors (specifically as a student athletic trainer and manager) at UTC and a summer job at Engel Stadium as the clubhouse attendant for the visiting baseball team. As a shy person who loves sports but is not a good athlete, my time as manager of the team gave me the confidence to pursue my degree while being involved in college athletics.

I am grateful to Chattanooga State because it gave me the opportunity to be a Jo, pursue an interest in short films and writing, and helped me to build on my future. As a student ambassador, I was able to share my love for Chattanooga State with my fellow classmates, as well as prospective students. One of the most important things about our community college is that it is a stepping-stone. Chattanooga State prepared me for an easy transition to UTC, but no matter how long it has been, I always feel at home when I come back to campus. Chattanooga State honed my professional and communication skills, which helped start my career at the Chattanooga Visitors Bureau. Above all else, I am grateful for the caring staff, the friends who shared a passion for film, and the school that made college a lot less scary.

I am grateful to Chattanooga State because I transferred to a four-year college debt free. I paid for my college education myself, was able to work while attending Chattanooga State and pay the affordable tuition. “College math readiness is a persistent problem for higher ed institutions across the U.S. According to a 2014 report from ACT, 57 percent of ACT-tested high school graduates across the country failed to meet math readiness benchmarks. When these students show up for their first year of college, they must take developmental classes to catch up — and too many never pass those courses. But by combining college and high school math content in an online environment taught in high school computer labs, educators in the state of Tennessee believe they have found a solution.”
